Kip Yoshimura enters his eleventh season as Pacific University’s head coach where he has amassed 121 collegiate victories, most of any other volleyball coach in school history.
Prior to being named Pacific’s coach, Yoshimura served as a head coach at Gonzaga University and Lewis-Clark State College, and has an overall record of 437-342. He has also worked as an assistant at Vanguard, Weber State, Long Beach State and UC Davis. In 2017, Yoshimura was inducted to the Lewis-Clark State College Athletic Hall of Fame.
At Lewis-Clark State College, he was selected NAIA All-Pacific Northwest Region Coach of the Year six times and developed a total of sixteen All-America, twenty-five All-Region, fifty All-Conference and twenty-one All-Academic Scholar honorees. While at NCAA DI Gonzaga University, he had ten All-West Coast Conference and eight WCC All-Academic honorees. And at Pacific University he has had twenty-four All-Northwest Conference student-athlete honorees and seven teams earn AVCA Team Academic Awards.
“I want each and every student-athlete in my programs to enjoy the whole college experience,” Yoshimura says. “Part of that is on the court, part of that is certainly in the classroom and part of that is socially on campus. At the same time, we want players who want to win and play and compete at the highest. We want them to aspire to be better than they are and hopefully, as a coaching staff we can provide that opportunity to play on a team where their goals are met.”
At the junior volleyball level, Yoshimura has served as a head coach at 951 Elite Volleyball Club and various other clubs in California, Washington, Idaho and Oregon. His experiences coaching and directing at summer volleyball camps include events in Colorado, Montana, Oregon, Idaho, California, Alaska, Hawaii, Washington and Louisiana.
Internationally, coach Yoshimura has traveled to France, Canada, Italy, Japan and most recently Costa Rica, to involve himself with various volleyball opportunities over the years.
Yoshimura played junior college volleyball at West Valley College in Saratoga, Calif., where he was a two-year starting setter and an all-conference performer in 1985. He also played one season for the men’s club program at San Jose State University.
A native of San Jose, Yoshimura graduated from Long Beach State in 1990 with a BS - Mechanical Engineering degree.
